The Super Creepy Guy commercial for DIRECTV staring Rob Lowe highlights the satellite provider’s reliability as a key advantage over cable, while also delivering some great humor with the use of an alternative Rob Lowe – a creepy Rob Lowe. The ad does a clever job associating the ownership of cable as something unseemly and creepy, while juxtaposing comfort and trust as central to DirecTV ownership. The ad delivers, and it one of the more funny commercials on the air in October.

The Stay Smart commercial for Holiday Inn Express staring Jim Gaffigan continues a long string of commercials for the hotel chain that have been well-done and funny since their inception. However, this commercial takes a slightly different approach. Instead of the main character solving some complex challenge, or doing the incredible because he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, we find actor Jim Gaffigan as the clueless doctor in need of someone who stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. The ad certainly scores on humor. It could have closed a little stronger, but overall, it is very funny commercial.
